Extracurriculars
Below is a list of the nearly 100 student organizations and interest groups that you can get involved in during your time at UConn, with the opportunity to start your own if there is something that you’re passionate about! The organizations vary in focus from career exploration, leadership, to service and more, exposing students to potential specialties of interest, engaging in the Farmington community, and making a difference both inside and out of the classroom.

Below are just a few examples of programs you can get involved in during your time at UConn.
South Park Clinic
South Park Inn Medical Clinic is a free, full-coverage clinic providing primary care services to transient residents of the South Park Inn Homeless Shelter. The clinic is operated by medical students and local volunteer physicians who provide services at the clinic.
Migrant Farm Workers
The UConn Migrant Farm Worker Clinic is a clinic devoted to providing free medical care to the underserved population of migrant farm workers in Connecticut. This is a mobile clinic that visits farms 3 evenings per week (Tues, Wed, Thurs) in the summer and one evening per week in the fall (Wed). The clinic is staffed by licensed physicians, medical and dental students as well as an array of high school, undergraduate, and health professions students.
The clinic is primarily associated with UST, but all medical students can volunteer.

Hartford Health Education Program
The Hartford Health Education Program is a collaboration between the Hartford School System and the School of Medicine and Dental Medicine. Each year, pairs of medical and dental students spend one hour a week in Hartford middle schools teaching about topics such as puberty, sexually transmitted diseases, violence prevention and drug abuse. The program is one of the few health education resources available to these children.
Student National Medical Association (SNMA)
The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is the nation's oldest and largest student organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color. Membership includes more than 8,000 medical students, pre-medical students, residents and physicians. The SNMA boasts over 40 years of service and is committed to addressing the needs of underserved communities, and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent, and socially conscious physicians. Our UConn chapter is involved in mentorship, community outreach, and service.

Latino Medical Students Association
The purpose of UConn LMSA is to address the health needs of the Latino community, as well as to promote the interests and support of those students who
identify themselves as Latino students of University of Connecticut School of Medicine through social, cultural, educational, political and other activities.
Research
Faculty in the School of Medicine are actively involved in a variety of innovative and cutting edge basic science, epidemiological, biobehavioral, and clinical/translational research activities. A major focus of this effort is the translation of our discoveries into advances in patient care and the licensing of new technologies and devices to the private sector.
